The government is planning to develop three orbital rail ring corridors across the National Capital Region (NCR) to reduce congestion on Delhi’s railway network and improve regional connectivity. The proposed project aims to provide direct rail links between NCR cities, allowing trains to bypass Delhi whenever possible. This initiative is expected to make passenger travel and freight movement more efficient.
Direct Rail Connectivity for More Than 25 NCR Cities
The proposed orbital rail network is expected to connect over 25 cities and towns across the NCR, including Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Meerut, Palwal, Rewari, and Alwar. With improved intercity connections, commuters could enjoy shorter travel times while businesses benefit from smoother transportation routes.
Delhi Railway Network to Get Major Relief
Currently, many passenger and freight trains pass through Delhi, creating heavy pressure on the capital’s railway infrastructure. The new rail rings are designed to provide alternative routes, reducing congestion at major railway stations and improving the overall efficiency of train operations across the region.
Project Expected to Boost Infrastructure and Economic Growth
Beyond improving transportation, the orbital rail ring project could support industrial development, logistics, and new investment opportunities across the NCR. If integrated with future regional transport systems such as the Namo Bharat RRTS and other rail corridors, the project has the potential to create a faster, smarter, and better-connected transportation network.
